Open-Bite

An open-bite is a bite in which, essentially, the front teeth do not touch. In short, the upper and lower front teeth do not overlap because they are forced outward.

This bite can impact proper chewing, adversely affect a patient’s smile and have a number of other negative effects. It can also cause unwanted habits like tongue thrusting and more.

Open-bites are often caused early in childhood, particularly by activities like thumb sucking, prolonged use of feeding bottles and more. These habits can cause the jaw to misalign, resulting in an open-bite.

It’s best to prevent open-bites by discouraging these negative habits, but once they occur, orthodontic intervention can be necessary. If you or your child suffers from an open-bite, schedule a consultation appointment with Alliance Orthodontics to find out how we can help correct your bite.
